Fauxing
non-marble things, like wooden columns, to
look like marble is called Marbleizing. It's a
very fun and creative- but intensive- process.
We apply many layers of different colors
of paint to the piece so it all comes together
to look like marble. Each marbleized piece we
do is absolutely unique- even if we use the
same colors, same techniques and even did the
same finish the day before! Marbleizing truly
brings out the artist in us because we are
creating a piece of 'marble' from purely our
own imagination.
Marble fauxs are
finishes we like to have a lot of client input
on because we want our clients to absolutely
LOVE the marbleized piece rather than feel it
would be great if only that part
was different. A perfect example are the
marble columns with the wooden bases below:
the one on the left has a brighter copper
ribbon, while the one in the middle has a more
antiqued look to the copper ribbon. They are
the same column but the client had to make the
call whether to leave the ribbon plain copper
or antique it- she chose the antiquing!
